Corns and Callus Removal
Hyperkeratosis is a thickening of the stratum corneum (outer layer of the skin). Corns and calluses often develop when the skin is exposed to excessive pressure or friction and can cause pain and discomfort when walking.
Treatment includes removal of corn(s) and reducing the hard skin. This can be achieved by using a combination of a scalpel technique and filing. Padding may be required for comfort so offloading methods may be discussed.
A referral may be required for a full biomechanical assessment (investigation of the lower limb function), where specially made devices can be made for the inside of your shoe to control, realign or cushion the abnormalities.
Verruca Treatment
Verruca's are a result of infection by one of the human papilloma viruses. It is thought that the virus thrives in warm, moist conditions such as swimming pool floors and communal showers. If located on weight baring parts of the foot they can be uncomfortable and painful.
A variety of different treatments are available depending on the individual.
Fissures (cracked heels)
Splits and fissures occur when the skin has lost sufficient elasticity due to thickness or dryness of the skin, typically on the rim of the heels. This can cause discomfort and for some appear not the most aesthetically-pleasing. At a more advanced stage and if left untreated, cracked heels may start to bleed and become infected with bacteria. Treatment includes reduction of the hard skin using a combination of a scalpel technique, filing and administration of an appropriate emollient.
Fungal Infections
Fungal infections are caused by a number of fungal organisms or yeasts and can affect the skin and nails. Fungal infection of the foot also known as Athletes Foot or Tinea Pedis is a superficial skin infection of the feet and toes commonly caused by Dermatophytes. Fungal infection of the foot is common in adolescents and at any one time, around 15–25% of people are likely to have athlete's foot. Fungi are opportunistic and often invade recently traumatised sites. Bruising or cracks in the skin can allow entry for the fungus as well as; certain medical conditions such as diabetes, a weakened immune system, nail damage or biting, continuous use of nail varnish, running, kicking and poorly fitting shoes. Fungi thrive on moist, warm environments, which is why this condition usually occurs in between toes due to an accumulation of moisture. A variety of different treatment options are available and will be discussed at your appointment.
Toe Nail Cutting Service
Most of us do not really give a lot of consideration to having our nails cut, but if you are elderly, infirmed or suffer from restricted movement then a nail cutting service can be a very important aspect of your healthcare. Your nails are constantly growing and in fact it takes a little over 12 - 18 months for your toenails to completely re grow. During this time they can become long, thick and break leaving sharp edges that can penetrate the skin and lead to pain and infection. This is particularly important to be avoided in those more susceptible to infection such as the elderly and diabetics.
Diabetic Foot Care
Your feet are important, especially if you have Diabetes. This is because you are more likely to develop problems with your feet, which in turn could lead to serious implications. Over time blood supply can diminish and sensitivity in the foot is impaired as nerves begin to reduce in numbers. Routine foot screening includes neurological testing, circulation testing, general care advice and a thorough foot inspection including any treatment needed.
Complete professional footcare in the home. Definitely recommended.

Today Sophie came out to do a general foot pamper for my husband. She was on time, very nice and having worked previously for the NHS gave us a very competent and enjoyable session. I was so impressed that we have re-booked her to come back and next time to do a double appointment for both me and my husband. If you have always wondered whether anyone would give my feet the once over then Sophie is your lady. The session would also make a fab birthday present for the person who has everything!👣
